What is the MAX bus route?

The MAX bus route is a commuter service designed for South Bay Residents who work in the El Segundo Employment center. MAX is sponsored by the cities of El Segundo, Lawndale, Los Angeles, Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance, Lomita and Los Angeles County. Torrance Transit acts as the lead agency.

MAX operates three routes going north in the morning and south in the evening. MAX runs Monday through Friday only. Click on the schedule link above to find more information about the three routes.

Does the MAX bus go by my house/work?

The MAX bus routes travel along the primary corridors of the South Bay. Line 2 travels primarily along Hawthorne Boulevard and Anza while Line 3 travels up Western, PCH, and Crenshaw Boulevard. Both Line 2 and 3 travel west on Manhattan Beach Boulevard before turning into the El Segundo area on Space Park Drive and Aviation.

Line 3X is a special freeway express route that operates directly from San Pedro to El Segundo. It cuts the time by about 20 minutes. For more information on these routes print out a copy of the system schedule here.

What times does the MAX service operate?

The morning runs start anywhere from 5:20am on Line 3 and run until the last departure on Line 2 at 7:10am.

The evening departures begin around 3:30pm and end shortly after 6:46pm for all routes.

The MAX service operates northbound in the morning and southbound in the evening during the week. MAX does not operate on weekends.

Where do I purchase tickets?

Please call the West Annex Transit Center, located at the Torrance City Hall, at (310) 618-2536 for tickets and monthly passes. You also might inquire with your employer about subsidizing your MAX fares as many businesses in El Segundo provide free MAX passes to their employees.
